Malcolm Turnbull ramps up attack on Labor’s asylum seeker policy
The Prime Minister has ramped-up the political attack on Labor’s stance on asylum seekers.
It comes after Papua New Guinea declared the Manus Island detention centre illegal this week.
It’s left 850 men in limbo.
Malcolm Turnbull told Neil Mitchell there was ‘absolutely no chance’ they’d be settled in Australia.
‘We have to be very, very clear about this,’ Mr Turnbull said in studio on Friday.
‘We can’t afford to let the empathy that we feel for the desperate circumstances many people find themselves in to cloud our judgement.
‘Our national security has to come first.’
Mr Turnbull said the men were on Manus in the first place due to the previous Labor government’s policy.
‘Their track record is woeful,’ he said.
