Male and female athletes to receive same treatment under new funding rules
Australian sporting codes risk being stripped of taxpayer funding if they refuse to follow new guidelines.
The Australian Sports Commission has written to the country’s 30 most funded organisations, alerting them to the change.
Female teams representing Australia must receive the same treatment as their male counterparts in the sport.
They must fly in the same class and stay in the same hotels.
John Wylie, chair of the ASC, said it was time.
‘We think community attitudes towards womens sport have changed decisively ? we think that’s a good thing,’ he said on 3AW Drive.
‘We think the policy is a very appropriate, fair and contemporary policy.’
