Australian sporting codes risk being stripped of taxpayer funding if they refuse to follow new guidelines.

The Australian Sports Commission has written to the country’s 30 most funded organisations, alerting them to the change.

Female teams representing Australia must receive the same treatment as their male counterparts in the sport.

They must fly in the same class and stay in the same hotels.

‘We think the policy is a very appropriate, fair and contemporary policy.’
