Man arrested in Mooroolbark after falling asleep in a car with a gun next to him

A man seen asleep in a car in Melbourne’s outer east – reportedly with a gun next to him – has been arrested without incident.

A passer-by raised the alarm at about 7.40 this morning – after seeing the man slumped in the Ford Falcon behind the IGA in Mooroolbark.

Parts of the shopping centre were placed into lockdown – police, including members of the Critical Incident Response Unit surrounded the vehicle and approached with guns drawn.

The incident was resolved around 10 o’clock, no shots were fired.
