A man has been arrested in the NSW regional town of Young for allegedly trying to help Islamic State.

The 42-year old electrician is accused of researching, designing and modelling systems to assist the terror group’s efforts in developing missiles.

The arrest followed more than 18 months of investigations.

Speaking on 3AW Drive, Senator Scott Ryan said it was a credit to the AFP.

‘This is a reminder of the threat we face in this new world,’ he said.
