Man assaulted in Fitzroy laneway

A man has been taken to hospital after being assaulted in a Fitzroy laneway.

The attack happened near the corner of Johnston and Brunswick Streets around 6.10pm on Wednesday.

The victim is understood to be in his 20s and suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Police are searching for the offender.
