Man charges at police with chainsaw after allegedly setting house on fire
A man has charged at police with a chainsaw after they located him allegedly attempting to assemble two firearms at a house in Melbourne’s south-east overnight.
Emergency services were called to the Heatherbrae Avenue home in Caulfield by two of the occupants at 10.30pm.
It’s believed a 29-year-old man allegedly set fire to the house following an argument with the occupants, a man and a woman.
Upon arrival police say they found the man in the backyard attempting to assemble two firearms.
When challenged by officers the man charged at them with a chainsaw before being arrested.
No one was injured in the incident and the man is expected to be interviewed later this morning.
He has been charged with a number of offences including make threats to kill, make threats to destroy property, make threats to inflict serious injury and criminal damage by fire.
The man is due to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning.
