Man critical after Port Melbourne hit-run

A man is in a critical condition after trying to stop a thief stealing his car in Port Melbourne. 

The victim, believed to be aged in his 30s, tried to get into his car through a back door last night when he witnessing another man trying to steal it. 

But the thief drove off, leaving the man wedged between a pole and the back door. 

He fell to the ground and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The offender has dumped the car before fleeing.
