Man dead and two police seriously injured in smash in Victoria’s north

A man has been killed and two police officers seriously hurt after a crash at Strathmerton.

At this stage, there is nothing to suggest the police were in pursuit of the vehicle.

Victoria Police said the van and police car collided on the Murray Valley Highway, at the Stokes Road intersection.

The driver and only occupant of the van, a yet to be formally identified man, died at the scene.

A police officer in his 30s was flown by air ambulance helicopter to The Alfred hospital with serious injuries.

A police officer in his 60s was taken to Shepparton Hospital, also with serious injuries.
