Man detained after boarding flight with shotgun and knife

UPDATE

Channel 9’s Mimi Becker has provided a fresh update on a worrying security breach at Avalon Airport on Thursday afternoon.

She told Jacqui Felgate a man, who was dressed as a maintenance worker, boarded the plane with a shotgun and knife according to witnesses.

“It was a very frightening incident for everyone,” she said.

EARLIER

A man has been taken into custody at Avalon Airport after reportedly trying to board a flight with a firearm.

Police swarmed the scene at around 2:50pm on Thursday afternoon, detaining the man.

Investigations are ongoing, according to police.
