Man fights for life after being hit by tram on Racecourse Road

A man is fighting for life in the Royal Melbourne Hospital after being hit by a tram.

3AW understands the man was crossing the road when he was hit by the Route 57 tram on Racecourse Road around 9am on Wednesday.

He suffered head injuries and is in a critical condition.

All eastbound lanes are closed.

Witnesses have told 3AW News commuters on two trams were evacuated when emergency services arrived.
