A man has been found dead in the early hours of this morning, at a house that was the scene of a recent non-fatal shooting.

Paramedics arrived at the home in Cochrane Street, Mitcham around 3.40AM to find a 37-year-old man dead in what’s described as a gruesome scene.

The Homicide squad has been called in and at this stage they are treating the death as suspicious.

A 46-year-old woman who also lives at the home is assisting police with their inquiries.

The death comes more than a year after an elderly man with a murderous history shot his housemate at the same address.

But Detectives Senior Sergeant David Yeoman says it’s not believed to be connected, and that elderly man is now is prison.
