Man dead and woman in hospital after Yarra River tragedy
A man has died and woman has been rescued after their canoe overturned on the Yarra River.
Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to reports a canoe had overturned in rapid waters at Dights Falls in Abbotsford at 1.30am.
First responders located a 46-year-old Upwey woman in difficulty in the water.
Rescue crews managed to pull her from the river, and she was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital for observation.
Tragically, a 29-year-old Rowville man’s body was retrieved from the water.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
