A man has handed himself into police following a pursuit that ended in a crash in Melbourne’s north.

The incident began when police – sitting at the intersection of Albert Street and Plenty Road, Preston – saw a vehicle speed past them at about 11pm on Thursday night.

They followed it as it turned into Tyler Street.

A second police unit later saw the vehicle on Oakhill Avenue, Reservoir, where the offending driver had lost control and smashed into a tree.

The driver fled the scene.

But police said a 24-year-old Reservoir man had since handed himself into police and is assisting them with their enquiries.
