Man in critical condition after car and train crash at Bairnsdale
A man is fighting for life after the car he was in hit a train at Bairnsdale.
The crash happened shortly before 6.30am on Monday.
The driver has been flown to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition.
None of the 64 passengers on the train, including the driver, required medical treatment.
The crash happened about 800 metres from Bairnsdale station at a crossing that is marked by signage but does not have lights or boom gates.
Police are investigating.
Coaches are now transporting passengers for the rest of their journey.
