Man left with permanent brain damage after serious assault in Ararat
A man has been left with permanent brain damage after a serious assault in Ararat earlier this year.
Detectives say the 59-year-old victim, from Ararat, had been walking his dog along Barkly Street about 10.50pm on July 1.
A female witness found the man with serious head injuries and called Triple Zero, but she left the scene before police arrived.
The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition and remained in intensive care for 28 days.
Detectives were initially unable to determine the exact cause of the man’s injuries, however now believe he may have been struck to the back of the head.
It is believed a man and woman fled the scene following the incident.
The assault has left the victim with an acquired brain injury.
