Man slashed with machete during ‘terrifying’ armed robbery

Police are investigating a frightening armed robbery at a Berwick jewellery store this afternoon.

Three armed masked males stormed the store on High Street at around midday, and assaulted a shop keeper, before fleeing in an awaiting black Toyota Kluger, driven by a fourth male.

“It’s really confronting stuff,” Jacqui Felgate said.

“Everything happened within a minute, it’s terrifying,” Margerit, the daughter of the victim, said on 3AW Drive.

Shadow Police Minister and member for Berwick, Brad Battin, then reacted to the “disgusting” assault.

“We’ve got a massive crime issue, and we haven’t got the resources to respond, and Johnny’s story today is something that’s happening all too often,” Battin said.
