A man has been bashed by a gang of youths in Melbourne’s east overnight.

Police say the 34-year-old victim heard some noises outside his home on Cooke Road at 2.15am and went to investigate.

He’s been confronted by up to four male offenders who chased him down the street before assaulting him and stabbing him several times in his legs.

The victim’s wife has taken him to Box Hill Hospital where he is in a stable condition but will require surgery.

No arrests have been made and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
