Man stuck waist-deep in Yarra river at Hawthorn

FIRST ON 3AW BREAKFAST

MFB specialist rescue teams have saved a man stuck in the Yarra river at Hawthorn this morning.

The man was discovered when he called out to passers-by, who helped raise the alarm shortly after 5am.

MFB crews arrived to find the man in waist-deep water.

“The area he was in was extremely overgrown with grass and bushes, but it was also very steep,” commander Steve Watts told 3AW.

“Once our specialist crew set up, some retrieval lines were set down to harness him up.”

The rescue took about 40 minutes.

The man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
