Man in mask enters bank and sprays staff with unknown substance
A man wearing a respiratory mask has entered a bank in Melbourne’s south-east, spraying staff members with an unknown substance and demanding money.
Listener Hayden told Neil Mitchell he’d just received a call from his wife, who was nearby the Westpac branch in Frankston.
“She was walking through the car park and police came running yelling, ‘get out of here, get out of here’,” Hayden said.
“Apparently a fella with a gas mask and a gas canister has come out of one of the banks and police are roping off the area.”
Police confirmed they have arrested a man following the alleged attempted armed robbery.
It’s believed staff members did not suffer any serious injuries.
The investigation is ongoing and people are asked to avoid the area.
Hazmat officers have since discovered the substance was water.
