Manhunt underway after scooter hit-and-run on Boxing Day

Police are searching for the rider of an electric scooter who failed to stop after allegedly knocking over a 64-year-old man in Hawthorn east on Boxing Day.

The man was walking on Burke Road just before 6pm when the scooter lost control and mounted the gutter before knocking him over.

He was taken to hospital with multiple head injuries and has since been discharged.

Police say the rider drove off on Ryeburne Avenue.

The scooter is described as being a Kymco brand and investigators have released an image of the offender on his scooter and a similar scooter model.
