The career of Russian former world number one, Maria Sharapova is in tatters after she was given a two-year ban.

This follows her positive test for meldonium at this year’s Australian Open.

The decision was made by a independent panel set up by the International Tennis Federation.

They came to the conclusion that while Sharapova was not aware the drug had been added to the banned list, she needed to take sole responsibility.

Sharapova says she will appeal.
