Police have taken a 43-year-old man to hospital after raiding a Maribyrnong home – ending a 14 hour siege this morning.

The man, who allegedly called Channel Seven last night threatening to burn the Duffy Street home, had been barricaded inside the property alone since about 3.30pm on Monday.

It’s understood the man had been calling out for cigarettes shortly before 6am Tuesday.

Inspector Paul Marshall told Channel Nine the man did not surrender – instead, specialist teams with the help of the dog squad moved in to make an arrest.
