AFL great Mark ‘Bomber’ Thompson has been arrested and charged over multiple alleged drug offences.

Victoria Police confirmed a 54-year-old Port Melbourne man was charged with a number of offences including possessing amphetamines, ecstasy and LSD, as well as drug trafficking methylamphetamine and other drugs.

It follows raids on the two-time premiership coach’s apartment earlier this year.

He fronted court on Tuesday, where he was granted bail on a $20,000 surety and under strict conditions.

He was forced to surrender his passport and cannot leave Victoria.

Thompson sat with his head down during the hearing and was supported in court by his ex-wife and daughter.

“For me, all roads lead back to the Essendon drug saga,” 3AW Football’s Mick Warner told Tom Elliott.

“As much as anyone, he just could never get over it.

“He felt betrayed, he felt like the process was a sham – which it was.

“I’m not saying it’s an excuse, but he got caught up emotionally in that (and) whether that led him down this road … I don’t know.”
