Marketing Professor explains UFC’s growth to become worth $5 billion
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has sold for $5 billion.
That is a growth of 200,000% in 16 years.
Marketing Professor Con Stavros told Neil Mitchell it’s unparalleled in the world of sports.
‘It puts it up there with a franchise like Star Wars,’ he said.
Mr Stavros said it’s because the UFC has embraced the digital age better than its rivals.
‘A lot of traditional sports have stuck to television,’ he said.
‘This is one spot that’s crossed the digital divide really, really well. With pay-per-view, the UFC has got a young, agile, willing-to-pay market.
‘20,000 is a good crowd for them, but they’ve got millions watching on pay-per-view. That’s where the money is.’
