A 74-year-old man who was viciously attacked in broad daylight outside his Ringwood East cafe has called on Maroondah Council to hurry up and install CCTV.

Bill told 3AW Drive he was walking back to his shop from the supermarket last week when a man he knew struck up a conversation.

But things quickly took a turn for the worse when he lashed out at Bill for no reason.

Bill suffered facial fractures from the blow and also when he hit the ground unconscious.

‘It’s a bit of a blur,’ the 74-year-old said.

In an added twist, the federal government made $200,000 available to Maroondah Council for cameras in 2014.

But they still haven’t been installed.

Bill hoped his unfortunate incident would speed up the process.

‘It looks like we’ll get them before Christmas,’ he said.
