Mask mandate could be dropped for term two

It’s expected the mask mandate for primary school aged children will be dropped for the start of term two if the current Omicron wave continues to plateau.

The Victorian government confirmed the move on Tuesday afternoon.

It’s part of a further easing of restrictions which includes a scrapping of vaccination requirements for polling venues in the lead up to the federal election.

There are also new protocols for cruise ships as they are given the green light by the Commonwealth government to resume operating later this month.

Under the requirements all passengers over 12 will need to be double-vaccinated, and all crew will required to be triple-vaccinated.

The ship’s crew will also be required to wear masks, and operators must take public health measures to reduce the risk of transmission.

The changes will come into effect from 11:59pm tonight.
