A hospital in Melbourne’s north-east has been evacuated after an incident.

Robert, who was visiting a friend at Warringal Private Hospital in Heidelberg, says he heard a “massive explosion”.

“It felt like a bomb,” he told Tony Moclair on 3AW Afternoons. “They’ve evacuated the building.”

The hospital says the incident occurred when a crane operated by an independent construction company contracted to carry out development works dropped a pallet containing plasterboard sheets onto the building.

It caused damage to a ceiling in a lounge area on a ward and has also damaged pipes, causing flooding in parts of the hospital.

Thankfully no one was injured.
