Matt Shirvington welcomes bid for a big bash style athletics competition featuring Usain Bolt
Champion sprinter Matt Shirvington has welcomed a bid to bring the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt to Melbourne for a big bash style athletics tournament.
It’s been reported negotiations are underway to bring the 100 metre world record holder to Australia for the Nitro Summer Athletics League.
The team-based event would be fast paced, lasting no longer than two hours, and showcasing one event at a time.
?Shirvington told Neil Mitchell it would be great to put athletics back on the map.
‘I think it’s something a bit different, it’s something broadcasters could sink their teeth in to,’ he said.
‘I love the ideas of being able to integrate some other sports as well.’
He said it would work well before the start of the AFL season.
