Matthew Guy wary of “mob justice” amid plans to open up the Sex Offender register

NEIL MITCHELL

People will be able to apply to access information on the Sex Offenders register under a State Opposition plan.

Currently, the register can only be accessed by people with police accreditation.

Successful applications will receive details of serious sex offenders, including a picture.

Penalties of up to 10 years’ imprisonment will apply for misuse of the information acquired.

“It is there for people to use in a sensible way,” Mr Guy said.

“You can’t go around and just run mob justice.”
