Matthew Lloyd says Jobe Watson would have been ‘at pains’ to hand back Brownlow
Essendon great Matthew Lloyd says Jobe Watson has done the ‘honourable’ thing by handing back his Brownlow Medal.
Watson announced on Friday he’d be giving back the medal he won during the 2012 season, the year Essendon’s infamous supplements saga took place.
3AW Football commentator Lloyd, who played with Watson, said the Bombers midfielder would have been ‘at pains’ to give it back.
Lloyd said it was just another reminder of how badly let down Watson was by people at the club.
‘He’s made the honourable decision to hand it back,’ Lloyd said.
‘But it’s another big hit in this sorry affair for a guy who puts his heart and soul into his career and was let down by individuals at the football club.
‘It’s just another disappointing day.’
