Matthew Lloyd says life after footy can be tough, but players should prepare

Sportsday

Adjusting to life after footy can be hard for players.

The 3AW Football panel discussed whether or not clubs owe their former players anything once they leave.

This comes as former Essendon player Courtenay Dempsey condemned the Bombers for how they treated him.

Dempsey said he was ‘thrown out and forgotten’ once he was done and had to fend for himself in life.

Bomber great Matthew Lloyd says it is ‘a huge shock when you first leave the system,’ but questioned Dempsey’s preparation.

‘I ask Courtenay, could he have done more in the past ten years to prepare himself,’ Lloyd said.
