Essendon great Matthew Lloyd says he gets the feeling the “planets are aligning” for Josh Kelly to end up at St Kilda.

Speaking on 3AW Football, Lloyd said he’d been told Greater Western Sydney wasn’t as confident of re-signing the star midfielder as perhaps it once was.

“I think that people at the Giants believe that by the day and by the week, they’re losing touch with Kelly and that he, in a sense, is withdrawing himself from that football club,” Lloyd said.

“He’s still playing OK, but they feel like he doesn’t look them in the eye like he used to. Maybe they feel like that he’s out the door?”

Lloyd said with two first round draft picks to trade and the impending retirement of Nick Riewoldt – plus loads of salary cap space – things looked good for the Saints.

“You see talk today that North Melbourne don’t think they’ll get Josh Kelly and have put all their eggs in the Dustin Martin camp – I just think the planets are aligning for St Kilda,” Lloyd explained.

The champion goalkicker said the Giants were “frustrated” with the situation.

“They want to know,” he explained.
