Essendon great Matthew Lloyd says Richmond needs to go back to the draft and should consider trading Brett Deledio for first round picks.

The Tigers are battling, sitting 1-5 after six rounds and appear certain to miss finals in a season many expected them to be winning one.

Lloyd was asked on 3AW whether trading away a star like Deledio would be beneficial for the club long-term.

He said the Tigers had to go back to the draft.

‘If it means getting a few first round selections, you’d look at it, definitely,’ Lloyd said on Sports Today.

‘I know clubs don’t like saying rebuild, but they have to get as many top-20 selections in over the next 12 to 24 months.’

But Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said the club hadn’t given up on its season just yet.

‘We’ve done it before,’ Gale told Sports Today.
