Essendon great Matthew Lloyd says Sydney got it ‘horribly wrong’ by trading Toby Nankervis to Richmond.

The Swans let the ruckman walk at the end of last season, trading him to the Tigers for pick 46.

He wanted more opportunity at senior level.

Speaking on 3AW, Lloyd said Nankervis should have got that chance at Sydney.

‘What a big error, what a big mistake that was from Sydney,’ Lloyd said on Tuesday.

‘Kurt Tippett and Sam Naismith are ‘nice’ footballers – Nankervis plays in a way that you want to follow, a lot like Ivan Maric did a few years ago.

‘I just think they (Sydney) got that one horribly wrong.’
