Matthew Richardson has come to the defence of former Richmond forward Tyrone Vickery.

Vickery, now at Hawthorn, has proven to be a whipping boy among footy fans throughout his career.

The forward-ruckman has been the source of several ‘jokes’ online this week, despite not even playing in the Hawks’ hefty loss to Geelong.

Richardson called on those potting him to think about what they were saying.

‘I don’t think people realise the effect these things can have on people,’ he said on 3AW.
