Matthew Richardson weighs in on the idea of an AFL mid-season trade period

Richmond great Matthew Richardson has welcomed the idea of a mid-season trade period, after it was reported the AFL are determined to implement it next season.

He referenced Carlton midfielder Paddy Dow, who can’t find a spot in the senior side despite good form in the VFL.

“If we had a mid-year trade period, he could do that, he could go to somewhere where his skills are probably needed,” Richardson told Tom Elliott, filling in for Neil Mitchell.

Elliott on the other hand, thinks the idea is “really weird” and wouldn’t sit well with AFL fans.
