MCC says it could host Melbourne Storm’s NRL preliminary final at the MCG
The MCC says it’s more than capable of hosting Melbourne Storm’s preliminary final on what will be an empty MCG in a fortnight’s time.
But CEO Stephen Gough told Neil Mitchell the venue was yet to receive any approach from the NRL.
Neil Mitchell posed the question on 3AW Mornings due to the fact there would be no AFL game at the home of football preliminary final weekend.
Both AFL finals will be in Perth. The Storm says it’s contractually bound to play at AAMI Park.
‘If the rugby league people have got any nous about them, they will make it happen and they will get a crowd,’ the 3AW Mornings host said.
MCC boss Gough was open to the idea, but wasn’t expecting it to come to fruition.
‘You could always do it,’ he said.
‘There’s no doubt we’ve shown in the past we can transform the ground from a variety of events in a short time, so it’s possible.’
