Former Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna has made contact with the club ‘through a close confidant’ to voice his anger and hurt he feels from Gary Ablett’s comments set to be aired on Channel 9’s ‘The Footy Show’ tonight, according to Scoop McClure.

Ablett took aim at the early development of the club, suggesting the training drills and expectation that success ‘was just going to happen’ has put them behind where they should be now.

‘I feel early days we probably developed the boys the wrong way,’ Ablett said.

‘I don’t think we were training the right drills.’

Ablett also gave praise to current coach Rodney Eade, who took over after the 2014 season when McKenna and the Suns parted ways.

‘I think Rocket’s been great since he’s got to the club.’

Scoop McClure revealed on Sports Today that McKenna was displeased with his former captain’s comments.

‘He’s contacted the club to voice his displeasure at Gary Ablett’s comments,’ McClure said.

‘It’s even been put to me that he asked the question that Gary had been put up to that by the club… The club has strongly denied that.’

McClure also said the Suns weren’t overly happy with Ablett speaking about the past.

‘The comments haven’t gone down well with anyone really.’
