There’s a sizeable new addition to the avocado industry.

And it’s called the Avozilla, the biggest avocado you can buy.

David Groves, from Grove Grown Tropical Fruits in Bungundarra in Queensland, told Tom Elliott the unique variety of avocado has an average weight of 1.2 kilograms.

They are the only supplier of the Avozilla, a species which originated in South Africa.

A normal avocado weighs just 200-250 grams, but the biggest Avozilla David has grown is 1.8 kilos.

“They do (taste the same), which is one of the things we wanted to make sure of before we planted them, these are just as good as the smaller ones,” he said.

They’re not available in Victoria just yet, but hopefully next year.
