Dozens of backpackers in the CBD have had an early morning wake-up call amid reports someone left the toast on for too long.

The fire alarm went off and prompting the sprinkler to come on at the All Nation’s Backpackers at the corner of Flinders and Spencer Streets just after 5.30am prompting an evacuation.

Isaac from Sweden was among those shivering in the cold in their pyjamas as fire crews went in and discovered the burnt toast.

‘We woke up, the fire alarm was going, we went outside, turned out it was a toaster or something. This sucks, but it is what it is.’ He tells 3AW News.
