RUMOUR CONFIRMED

A young Melbourne couple have lost their life savings to a devastating banking scam.

Rachel and her partner received a “typical” scam text asking them to update their bank details, which was “really just a cover” for a more sophisticated scam.

Press PLAY below to hear how the sophisticated scammers fleeced the young couple

“The scammer started sending texts through our banks text channel and all looking very legitimate and essentially building trust with us to think ‘Thank god we’ve caught this scam and we’re going to help you through this’,” Rachel told Ross and Russel.

In total, $98,000 was stolen from the couple.

Investigators believe the couple’s funds have now been transferred offshore, and their bank, Westpac, has offered them only $3000 in compensation. They’re now working with a financial dispute company to negotiate a resolution.
