Melbourne has lost the title of the World’s Most Liveable City.

Neil Mitchell revealed, it will later be revealed that Vienna has claimed top ranking in The Economist‘s annual list, taking that title off Melbourne for the first time in seven years.

TOP FIVE

  • Vienna, Austria
  • Melbourne, Australia
  • Osaka, Japan
  • Calgary, Canada
  • Sydney, Australia

Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp told Neil Mitchell that while second spot is hardly disastrous, she’s eager to regain the title.

“A lot of it is about what’s gone right for Vienna,” she said.

But certainly I’m so disappointed that we’re second, so don’t get me wrong.

“I think this is a chance for us to face those challenges that we’re confronting at the moment and work together to get ourselves back to number one.”

Ms Capp identified three key issues in which Melbourne can improve:

• Congestion
• Safety
• Homelessness
