Shane McInnes has called out hotels for raising prices for the upcoming Taylor Swift concerts at the MCG.

Novotel and Mercure hotels in the city have raised their prices by around 300 per cent for the weekend in February when the global music superstar is performing in Melbourne.

“If it’s not right for supermarkets and airlines to price gouge, then surely the same applies to hotels as well,” Shane said on 3AW Afternoons.

Victorian Tourism Industry Council CEO Felicia Mariani said it was important hotels balanced making a profit in the post-COVID era and offering customers affordable prices.

“Our major event calendar here in Victoria is critically important to our hotel sector,” she said.
