Melbourne Lord Mayor’s strong call on Melbourne Cup holiday

Melbourne Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece called for the Melbourne Cup public holiday to be celebrated across the country, not just in Victoria.

He told 3AW Mornings host Tom Elliott that “the race that stops the nation” should be celebrated nationwide to reflect that status.

“It is one of these things, the more you look at it, you actually realise there could be something to this,” he said.
