A Melbourne man is aiming to become the oldest Australian to climb Mount Everest.

Neil Fletcher, 68, will tackle the world’s summit in April next year.

The Edithvale business-owner is already training in an altitude chamber three times a week and runs 30km each Sunday, usually on the surf coast.

Mr Fletcher said his family is supportive, but pragmatic.

“(His children) said ‘Get your affairs in order before you go’!” he told Neil Mitchell this morning.
