Melbourne could become home to Australia’s first ocean swimming trail under an ambitious plan to encourage more people into the water.

The council is considering a proposal to introduce a swimming route off St Kilda, with buoys marking a path, signs with messages of encouragement and distance markers.

Leader of the Port Melbourne Icebergs, Ross Headifen, says it “would be a lot of fun”.

“During COVID and after COVID the number of people coming to the bay jumped substantially,” he told Jacqui Felgate and Jimmy Bartel, filling in for Ross and Russel.
