New late-night entertainment venues will now be able to apply for licences to serve alcohol after 1am in a few months, a move which has previously not been allowed for 15 years.

Chair of Melbourne’s Night-Time Economy Advisory Committee, Penny Miles, believes the lifting of the ban will be good for the entertainment industry.

“Here’s an opportunity for the city to keep on rolling through the evening,” Ms Miles told Ross and Russel.

Major Brendan Nottle from the Salvation Army later spoke to Neil Mitchell on the topic and believing it is a promising move for the city.

“I’m open to the idea of expanding venues licences so that we actually bring more life back into the city again,” he said.
