Melbourne Star observation wheel shuts down after 15 years
The Melbourne Star observation wheel in the Docklands has shut down permanently.
A statement was issued by the wheel operators on Monday afternoon, announcing “with a heavy heart” that the attraction has closed.
Directors of the wheel have blamed the pandemic, and subsequent travel restrictions and shutdowns, and increased high-rise development in the area for the closure.
The Melbourne Star, which stands at 120 metres high, has been a part of the city’s skyline for more than 15 years.
