Melbourne Storm football boss Frank Ponissi has addressed the club’s tumultuous off-season, saying much of the negative attention that has been drawn to the club has been hard to defend.

The Storm, who are renowned as one of Australia’s most professional sporting outfits, have had an uncharacteristically controversial off-season.

Ponissi said the club “understood” much of the heat being directed at the club.

“It’s pretty hard to defend a lot of those things, too,” he said on 3AW.

“We love when we get all the accolades and pats on the back that come our way, obviously we have received a fair few over the years, but when it’s time to cop the brick bats we’ve just got to put the helmet on and take them and more importantly do something about it going forward.”
