Melbourne temperatures expected to soar

Firefighters say there’s the potential for fast-moving grass and forest fires across the state today with temperatures tipped to hit the 40s in some parts of Victoria.

Total fire bans are in place in the Mallee, Wimmera and North Central districts.

It’ll reach 35?C in Melbourne, a southerly change after 1pm this afternoon will bring the temperature back into the high 20s.
